Today Jason Penney of Uvalde, Texas became the first recipient of SWCHR's annual Award for Excellence in Herpetological Photography. SWCHR's Gerald Keown made the trip to Uvalde, Texas to present the 2007 Award for Excellence in Herpetological Photography to Jason who is a long-time herper and the current Vice-President for Recreation of Herp Conservation Unlimited (HCU). The annual award consists of a plaque mounted certificate along with a $150 cash award. Please click here to learn more and to view Jason's award-winning photograph.
The Award for Excellence in Herpetological Photography will continue to be presented on an annual basis. Southwestern Center for Herpetological Research is hopeful of being able to increase the cash portion of the award at some point in the future. SWCHR is very pleased with our first year with this award program that allows us to recognize and reward individuals who demonstrate a high degree of photographic excellence in the field of herpetology.
