Distribution:  In our region, this species occurs only in the longleaf pine and mixed pine-hardwood forests of East Texas. Along the western edge of its range, it intergrades with the Eastern Yellow-bellied Racer (Coluber constrictor flaviventris).

Legal Status:  The Buttermilk Racer has no protected status in our region.
