Distribution:  In our region, Sistrurus miliarius streckeri occurs throughout eastern and southeastern Texas. This species seems to be disappearing from some areas of its known range, including the Texas coastal area southwest of Galveston Bay. This species apparent decline is possibly the result of habitat alteration, urbanization, fire ants, and the use of pesticides and herbicides.

Legal Status:   The Western Pygmy Rattlesnake has no protected status in our region.
